La Salle kept in pace with Far Eastern University on top of the standings winning over University of Santo Tomas, 25-21, 25-14, 25-21, Sunday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.The Lady Archers joined the Lady Tamaraws once again for the top spot with the win as both teams hold 7-1 cards. Stephanie Mercado, daughter of former Asian sprint queen Lydia De Vega-Mercado, pumped in 16 points while Charleen Cruz and Jacqueline Alarca tallied 15 and 13 each also for La Salle. The Tigresses suffered their fourth loss in eight games to join Ateneo in fourth spot. This was, after the Lady Eagles snapped their two-game slide with a 25-18, 25-11, 25-21 win over the National University Lady Bulldogs. Rookie Angeline Gervacio had 16 points while Bea Pascual and rookie Fille Cainglet combined for 16 points for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-7. Team standings: DLSU 7-1, FEU 7-1, Adamson 5-3, Ateneo 4-4, UST 4-4, UE 2-6, UP 2-6, NU 1-7. |
