Far Eastern University surprised defending champion Adamson, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17, for their fourth win in five matches that assured them of a playoff for a quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League at the Blue Eagle gym. Maica Morada led the Lady Tams' offense with 14 markers while Shaira Gonzales contributed 10 points in posting the win in an hour and 12 minutes that tied them with San Sebastian for second place with a 4-1 slate. FEU also put up a very tough defense that stopped the Adamson Lady Falcons' hitters, giving the Lady Tams the advantage in the match. "We were able to control Adamson’s top hitters with our blocking," said FEU coach Nes Pamilar whose wards gave Adamson its second defeat in five matches. Next up for the Lady Tams are the San Sebastian spikers in what is being considered as another explosive match. Making matters worse for the Lady Falcons is the so-so performance of reigning MVP Nerisa Bautista who scored just seven markers after playing in an international beach volley tilt in Vietnam. And with FEU putting up a wall-like defense, only Angela Benting scored in double figures with her 11 points and even new guest player in Joanna Botor-Carpio, who replaced ace setter Janet Serafica, finished with just four points. Serafica is currently on leave because of her commitments with the Philippine Navy. Meanwhile, Ateneo-OraCare banked on the Thai import Keawbundit Sontaya and Charo Soriano in disposing of University of the Philippines, 25-12, 25-16, 25-15, to remain in contention for a quarterfinal berth. It was Ateneo's fourth win in six matches while UP absorbed remains winless after six outings. |
