Johnny Arcilla beat top seed Patrick John Tierro Sunday to retain the men's singles title in the 2008 Philippine Columbian Association Open Tennis Championships.
A report posted on SportsNews.ph said game scores were 4-6, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
"Masarap ang pakiramdam," said the Arcilla, who pocketed a total of P110,000 in cash, including the P10,000 in the doubles he won with Tierro.
In the Women’s Division, top seed Bambi Zoleta defeated defending champion Czarina Mae Arevalo 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
The 16-year-old Zoleta took advantage of Arevalo’s unsteady service game to win her second title after the Alcala Memorial Cup in Lucena City this year. She took home the trophy and the champion’s purse worth P50,000.
"Sa wakas nanalo rin," said Zoleta after beating Arevalo for the first time in five meetings.
They met in the finals of the 2005 PCA Open and the 2006 Escudero and Olivarez Cup. Arevalo eliminated Zoleta 6-3, 6-4 in the PCA Open semis last year. - abs-cbnNEWS
