Three training coaches on shooting – two of them former world shooting champions – will hold a seminar on training youngsters to become future Filipino top guns during the 2008 Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS) Part I on July 17 to 21 at the Megatrade Halls 1 & 2, Building B, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Tac Padilla and Bart Teyab, both Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) titleholders, along with Robbie Hermoso – father of SEAG shooting champion Santino Hermoso – will lecture on the "Road to the Olympics – Starting them Young" in the seminars provided free for gun enthusiasts at the 2008 DSAS.

"We are hoping to convince more young Filipinos to enter the world of shooting since we believe that there are a lot of talented shooters among us. We have proven it before and we will prove it again in the future," Hermoso said.

Organized by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers (AFAD), this year’s DSAS theme "Strengthening the relationship with Responsible Gun Ownership" is aimed at promoting responsible firearms ownership by drumbeating the importance of gun handling and safety issues.

Now on its 16th year, AFAD president Nereo Dionisio said that this year’s DSAS Part I will involve at least 32 exhibitors of firearms, shooting accessories and apparel.

Focusing on the promotion of responsible gun ownership, event manager Tradeshow International, Inc. has lined up several seminars aimed at encouraging gun safety and responsible ownership.

Representatives from concerned government agencies, particularly the Philippine National Police (PNP), and different major gun associations will also hold lectures on Rules of Governing Importation of Firearms and Airsoft Guns; and the True State of Gun Ownership in the country.

Other interesting lectures include Cost Effective Measures in Gun Ownership; Tactical Medicine; Dressing Up Your Guns; and Gun Maintenance.

There will also be live self-defense demonstrations like the Krav Maga, Arnis, Yoshinkan Aikido, and Indigenous Fighting System.

Another unique feature of this year’s DSAS Part I is the live interview sessions of VIPs, gun enthusiasts and other interesting personalities in the event. There will also be daily raffle and a sport shooting photo exhibition.

This year’s sponsors include Gadgets Magazine, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, Daily Tribune, Business Mirror, People’s Journal, Pilipino Star Ngayon, NU Rock 107.5, Dream FM 108.7, Campus Radio 99.5, Magic 89.9, Jam 88.3, Crossover 105.1, DZRH, DZHH, Taytan International Corp., Ansmann Batteries & Chargers, Total Security Systems, Inc., Leisure Vacation Suites, JVC-The Perfect Experience, and Airsoft Extreme International Magazine.
