MANILA, Philippines – Following the successful staging of the 2009 Tour of Luzon’s revival, another bicycle road race hits the road on May 8 to 15. The eight-day “Padyak Pinoy" race, another multi-stage bikefest speeds off with The Fort in Taguig City as the starting point. The race, also known as the “Tour of Champions", will have 15 squads composed of five riders each that will vie for the team top honors. The division of the riders was deliberately designed to allow team members better coordination and more effective teamwork among themselves.
“We will not only see new faces but a more united effort among cycling groups, race organizers and other sport sponsors to achieve a performance worthy of bringing the Philippines more awards in the future," said former Philcycling president and now chairman emeritus Bert Lina. The race will traverse the northern provinces of Pampanga, Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Benguet and the City of Baguio. Padyak Pinoy's trademark Baguio-to-Baguio leg, the “Ocho-ocho" or zigzag road in Baguio City, will again be the most challenging of all eight stages.
