Pitcher Julie Marie Muyco excelled on both ends of the plate as the team, representing Asia Pacific, improved to 2-1 in Pool A. Bacolod is represented by Bacolod West Little League. After dropping its first game to Central, represented by Indiana District 11, 10-1, the Filipina lasses bounced back with a hard earned 3-1 win against EMEA composed of players from KMC American Little League of Ramstein, Germany. Muyco, whose elder sister, Cloiene, a UAAP bemedalled pitcher and a Philippine national softball team member, allowed just one hit and a run with 14 strikeouts in four innings. She was replaced by Lucile Rote who gave just a single hit in the next three innings. Muyco also excelled at the plate going two-of-four with four RBIs. Nerrisa Benjamin and Elvin Entrina batted in two runs each as Bacolod tagged South pitchers Theresa Rollins and Amanda Buffington with a combined 11 hits for the win. The team takes a rest Wednesday before plunging back into action Thursday for their final elimination round game against Southwest, represented by West Mesa Little League, Albuquerque, Mexico. A win by Bacolod will give them a seat in the semifinals along with Central who has a clean 3-0 slate into their final game against winless South. A total of 10 teams, divided into two groups, are seeing action in the weeklong tournament. The top two teams from each pool advances in the cross over semifinals set Friday. The winners will then dispute the World Series title on Saturday. – GMANews.TV |
