Philippine representatives Bacolod Little League failed to advance in the Senior League Softball World Series bowing to West Cumberland, New Jersey, 1-0, in the Friday’s semifinals at the Ebbets Field in Lower Sussex, Delaware.

Bacolod, representing the Asia-Pacific region, was in high spirits after scoring a 4-3 win over Southwest representatives West Mesa Little League of Albuquerque, New Mexico Thursday that gave them the second spot in Pool A.

The softbelles, however, failed to sustain that momentum against the East squad from New Jersey, which topped Pool B with a 9-2 drubbing of Canada in their final assignment.

Julie Marie Muyco pitched two no-hit innings striking out seven batters before being relieved by Annalie Benjamin at the third inning.

Benjamin, who also pitched three-innings in relief in their 4-3 win over Southwest Friday, had a strong start as she prevented East to score in the game.

But she, however, lost her focus in the pivotal sixth inning giving up a crucial lead-off walk to Deseree Rivera.

Nichole Larro came in to pinch run for Rivera then advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by pitcher Kylie Kristovich before scoring on an Arielle Bruno, who found a gap at the outfield, line drive for the game’s lone run.

Krsitovich preserved the win by shutting down the Philippine batters to send East to a finals showdown against Pool B’s second-ranked team Latin America, which scored a 5-4 win over Pool A top team Central’s Indiana Little League of South Bend, Indiana.

The World Series finals will be played Saturday with the Bacolod lasses going for the best possible finish against Central in the battle for third.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod team seeing action in the Little League Softball World Series at Portland, Oregon opened their campaign on a losing note, bowing to Grand Terrace, California of West, 3-0, played Friday.

The 12-under team takes a bye Saturday before they spring back to action Sunday against Central's Sterling, Illinois which defeated EMEA representative Milano Italy, 9-1. – GMANews.TV
