With the threat of early elimination hanging over its head, the Philippine team from Bacolod City takes on US-Central on Monday, hoping to resuscitate its flagging title aspirations in the Little League Softball World Series at the Alpenrose Field here.
Over in Bangor, Maine, the International Little League Association of Manila (ILLAM), powered by five stalwarts from last year’s squad that finished second in the Junior League Baseball World Series, opens its bid against old foe Hawaii at 2:30 p.m. today (Monday, 2:30 a.m. in the Philippines) in the Senior League tournament.
Hawaii, bannered by Pearl City, won the Junior League title in Taylor, Michigan last year at the expense of ILLAM.

Philippine representatives Bacolod Little League failed to advance in the Senior League Softball World Series bowing to West Cumberland, New Jersey, 1-0, in the Friday’s semifinals at the Ebbets Field in Lower Sussex, Delaware.
Bacolod, representing the Asia-Pacific region, was in high spirits after scoring a 4-3 win over Southwest representatives West Mesa Little League of Albuquerque, New Mexico Thursday that gave them the second spot in Pool A.
The softbelles, however, failed to sustain that momentum against the East squad from New Jersey, which topped Pool B with a 9-2 drubbing of Canada in their final assignment.

The Philippines moved closer to a semifinal berth in the 2008 Senior League Softball World Series Wednesday after posting a stirring 10-1 victory over US-South at the Ebbets Field in Lower Sussex, Delaware.
Pitcher Julie Marie Muyco struck out 11 batters in the first four innings and drove in four runs as the team from Bacolod City raised its record to 2-1 for second place in Group A.
The Filipinos, the Asia-Pacific representatives in the weeklong tournament, also defeated Germany, 3-1, Tuesday, after yielding to powerhouse US-Central, 1-10, in their first game.
US-Central, bannered by Indiana, stayed undefeated in three games after a 16-1 demolition of Germany.
Muyco, starting in the place of Annalie Benjamin, who is expected to join the team on Friday, also made a good account of herself at bat, going 3 for 4 and scoring twice.

Bacolod sluggers remained in the hunt for a semifinals seat in the Senior League Softball World Series with a 10-1 massacre of South representatives Green Run Little League of Virginia Beach, Virginia on Tuesday at Lower Sussex, Delaware.
Pitcher Julie Marie Muyco excelled on both ends of the plate as the team, representing Asia Pacific, improved to 2-1 in Pool A. Bacolod is represented by Bacolod West Little League.
