Five players, including two sensational rookies, are among the contenders in the first-ever Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award in the ongoing PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup.

Already the favorites for the “Fantastic Freshman” award, Paul Lee of Bacchus Energy Drink and Chris Ross of Pharex became contenders in the race by producing numbers not expected from rookies in a high-level tournament.

Aside from Lee and Ross, Hapee Toothpaste slotman Jervy Cruz, Rico Maierhofer of Harbour Centre and Neil Rañeses of Magnolia Purewater are also in contention for the BPC honors.

Lee, a University of the East standout, leads scoring game with an average of 16.4 points a game.

His performance also helped Bacchus advance to the semis for the first time after a mediocre performance in the past.

Lee also posted 7.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals in 15 games for Bacchus which tied its semis series with Magnolia.

“He’s one of the best players in the league right now, very cool and versatile,” said Bacchus coach Lawrence Chongson of his prolific guard.

Although the Generix fell short in their 'Final Four' bid, there was no doubt that Ross made a big impression in his debut.

Ross lorded over the assists and steals departments with 5.8 and 2.8 averages per game, become the hero of Pharex’s 81-79 win against Toyota Otis.

He is also averaged 11.6 and 6.1 boards a game.

Former UAAP MVP Cruz posted near double-double averages of 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, while Maierhofer averaged 12.5 points and 9.2 boards per contest.

Cruz and Maierhofer currently hold 1-2 spots in the rebounding department.
