It’s business as usual for mighty Harbour Centre. The Batang Pier flashed enough firepower to go with a plucky defense and rolled past Hapee Toothpaste, 85-62, in the semifinal opener of the PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. Reed Juntilla shot 19 points and Jerwin Gaco and Rico Maierhofer put in double-double performances as Harbour Centre put away Game 1 of the best-of-five series. Magnolia Purewater also picked up an easy win in its own semifinal series, blasting Bacchus, 80-66, in the second game. Neil Rañeses powered the Wizards with 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while Al Magpayo triggered a pivotal third-quarter spurt to finish with 15 points before sitting out the last few minutes of the fourth period due to cramps. The Wizards held on in the closing minutes behind Dylan Ababou, who added 17 points. Gaco posted 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Maierhofer collected 13 points and 12 boards to help Batang Pier surge ahead by 20 points, 58-38, midway in the third quarter. Al Vergara, the veteran point guard recalled from the Singapore Slingers last Tuesday, debuted for Batang Pier with seven markers, two boards and a game-high eight assists. The five-time champion Harbour five outrebounded the Complete Protectors, 47-25. The Batang Pier also held Chris Tiu to four points, just two days after the Ateneo de Manila University star debuted to help push the Complete Protectors through the semifinals. “We practiced [our rebounding] for three to four days because we had to dominate the boards for us to stop the running game of Hapee,” said coach Jorge Gallent.
