Pharex fought off elimination anew as JR Gerilla unloaded a career-high 24 points in leading the Generix to a surprisingly lopsided 96-77 victory over Bacchus Tuesday in the PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym.

Tenacious all throughout, the Generix came away with their third straight win for a 4-7 record that kept their quarterfinal hopes alive.

“Momentum is starting to build up and the team is playing much better now,” said Pharex coach Carlo Tan of his squad which rose from a 0-6 start.

Mac Baracael also pumped in a career-high 25 points and Burger King made it to the quarterfinals on the back of a 74-69 triumph over Toyota Otis in the second game.

The loss pushed Toyota Otis down to a share of last place with Pharex, making their final elimination duel at 4 p.m. Thursday a knockout match for the last quarterfinal berth.

“[The quarterfinals] was one thing we never talked about,” said Burger King mentor Allan Gregorio after his Stunners joined Bacchus and Hapee in the next round. “We had certain game adjustments. The defensive adjustment and pressure worked to our advantage.”

Baracael, the Far Eastern University star who survived a shooting incident six months ago, sank four buffer free throws in the final minute to keep the rallying Stunners at bay.

The Generix’s impeccable shooting turned out to be the story as Gerilla, who averaged only 8.5 points in his last 10 games, nailed all but one of 13 attempts from the field.

“He’s been with us for two conferences and he’s gradually worked his way to what he’s doing now,” said Tan of the 6-foot-5 Gerilla.

Ronnie Matias added 16 points for Pharex.
