Fil-Am Chris Ross was picked as the PBL Player of the Week for his crucial role in leading Pharex to a quarterfinals seat of the PG Flex Linoleum Cup.Ross, the top pick in the draft held last September, carried the Generix on his back Thursday when he scored 23 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 37 minutes to beat Toyota Otis, 71-69, and claim the last seat in the quarters. In that match, the former Marshall University standout shut the lights out with 14 points in the second half, including a game-winning jumper off Bryan Faundo and Chris Timberlake with 4.1 seconds remaining. And for good measure, Ross forced Timberlake to miss a running shot on the other end to preserve the win. "Our team just came together and we were fighting every game and I just don't want my team to go home early," Ross said, who helped Pharex win its last four assignments after an 0-6 start and a 1-7 record during the middle part of the tourney. Head coach Carlo Tan was glad to see his prized freshman deliver for his team. "Tough games bring out the best players and Chris stood out the best for us," Tan said. "The guy's a fighter, he's a competitor and he was inspiring." |
