Joseph Yeo scored 11 of his 22 points in the fourth period as Sta. Lucia trimmed Alaska, 81-74, last night to stay alive in their best-of-seven semifinal series in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Yeo highlighted his performance with a triple to give the Realtors a 77-72 lead going into the final 2:12.
The Realtors cut the Aces’ series lead to 3-2, with the chance to equalize tomorrow.

“We live another day,” said Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez. “It was a nice win, but we’re still down (in the series). We’ll take it one game at a time and not look beyond [Game 6 on tomorrow].”

San Miguel Beer also kept its hopes alive, holding off Talk ‘N Text, 125-115, in the second game.

Marc Pingris led seven Beermen with double figures, chipping in 28 points to put his team within a win of squaring their half of the semifinal bracket.

Alaska, which won Game 4 after leading by as many as 26 points, again started hot and took 16-point leads in the opening frame, thanks to 10 points from LA Tenorio and eight and seven from Joe Devance and Jeff Cariaso.

But the Realtors, who won this tournament against Purefoods last year, slowly nibbled away at that deficit, closing out the first half down by just three points.

Alaska was on top for the last time at 72-71 after two Reynel Hugnatan free throws off a Kelly Williams foul with 3:54 left.

Sta. Lucia then knocked down two treys courtesy of Denok Miranda and that one by Yeo to seize control.

Kelly Williams, the reigning MVP, hit a layup and the Realtors held Alaska scoreless until the final 27-second mark, when Willie Miller nailed a short stab, 79-74.
