 Alaska and Talk ‘N Text, the 1-2 squads after the eliminations, try to close out their semifinal rivals on Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City and arrange a fitting championship showdown in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup.The Aces get the first crack at a title slot against the defending champion Sta. Lucia Realtors at 5 p.m., seemingly destined to pull through with the way they have dominated the best-of-seven series. The Tropang Texters expect a monumental fight from the San Miguel Beermen at 7:30 p.m. but they have the momentum plus the psychological boost of a big comeback after blowing an 18-point lead to win last Wednesday. With 3-1 leads, Alaska and Talk ’N Text are hoping to forge a first championship duel since the 2003 All-Filipino Cup. The Realtors are in a do-or-die match for the first time this season but coach Boyet Fernandez is not about to toss in the towel. “We’re down but not out,” Fernandez, who won this event in his rookie season last year, said Thursday. “We just have to regroup and believe we can still do it. It’s not yet over. “They (Aces) still have to beat us one more time and we will never give up.” But Alaska’s Tim Cone, the last coach to lose a 3-1 lead and eventually the series, is not about to take things for granted and vowed to go all the way. Alaska posted leads of as many as 26 points in the first half Wednesday night to win via an 88-83 margin. Thanks to a number of stops in the crunch, and some pathetic shooting from Sta. Lucia, the Aces were able to pull it out. It was not the same case as far as the Beermen were concerned, as they lost in the endgame for the second straight night after wielding control in both contests. In Game 4, San Miguel led by 10 with lest than 11 minutes left but lost, 106-103. |
