Talk n Text and Alaska Milk try to zero in on the finals while San Miguel Beer and Sta. Lucia Realty hope to catch up in Game Four of the KFC PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinal round at the Astrodome today. The Texters and the Beermen collide at 4 p.m. then the Aces and the Realtors clash at 6:30 p.m. in what could well be the turning point in both series. For the Texters and the Aces, a victory means three cracks at clinching a finals berth. For the Beermen and the Realtors, a win will serve as an equalizer and a momentum shift in the series. Talk n Text survived San Miguel, 110-106, Sunday in what was easily the most dramatic and thrilling game in the Final Four so far. That could well set the tone for the rest of the games in the round. “What a game it was. This is going to be an exciting series,” said Talk n Text coach Chot Reyes after his team squeezed through in Game Three. Sta. Lucia also made its duel with Alaska exciting after stopping the Aces’ charge with a 76-65 victory. “We’re not out of the rut yet. But this is definitely a good step hopefully towards full recovery and winning the series,” said Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez. The Aces were beaten but unbowed Sunday with coach Tim Cone confident they can regroup and reestablish control. “It’s just a game. It’s like they (the Realtors) made a 12-0 run in a game and you have to stop them. We’ll do what we have to do in Game Four,” said Cone. The Talk n Text mentor has deeper concerns though also holding a 2-1 lead over San Miguel. “I really believe San Miguel gets better as it gets depleted. Minus one or two players, they would be able to maximize the talents that they have,” said Reyes, wary that San Miguel remains a formidable team in the absence of Dorian Peña, who’s nursing a sprained right foot. Sans Pena and Jay Washington, the Beermen pushed the Texters to the limit Wednesday before yielding the game on crucial misses at endgame. To sustain control in the series, Reyes also hopes to figure out a way not to get into early foul trouble situation. “We’re giving up so many fouls, and it affects our ability to press. It hampers our defense,” said Reyes whose Tropang Texters gave away 43 charities in Game Three. San Miguel was 37-of-43 from the stripe while Talk n Text converted 19 of only 24 free throws in that contest. San Miguel coach Siot Tanquingcen is concerned only with their game. “Game Four is crucial, we’ve to defend and play smart offensively,” he said. |
