The Air21 Express defeated the Ginebra Kings, 97-87, as they took Game 3 of the PBA best-of-seven championship showdown Sunday evening at the Araneta Coliseum.

A report posted on SportNews.ph said the Express now leads the series with 2-1.

Nino Canaleta scored 12 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Express with his perfect scoring at the three-point field.

The Express also received as boost from Gary David and import Steven Thomas, who both scored 25 apiece.

“I will always get points from Gary. But all along at the back of our minds Steve cannot go one-one with Chris Alexander. But tonight he proved that he can take on Alexander,” said winning coach Bo Perasol.

Wynne Arboleda had a near-triple double performance with 12 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists while Arwind Santos, a strong candidate for the season MVP added 10 markers.

Mark Caguioa led the Kings with 21 points. Eric Menk had 17 points while Sunday Salvacion added 16 points. Import Chris Alexander contributed triple-double numbers of 14 points, 17 rebounds and 11 blocks.

Ginebra, however, missed the services of starting point guard the conference best player Jayjay Helterbrand due to a hamstring injury he sustained in Game 2.

Game 4 is set Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
