Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa led the Kings with 22 points and seven rebounds as they repulsed the gritty Express. The Express went on the offensive during the opening minutes of the first quarter by scoring the first 10 points of the game. They, however, ended up trailing by six after the quarter. “What happened was, we started very well because we were so fired up. We just failed to sustain it,” said Express coach Bo Perasol. Import Chris Alexander scored 18 points and 25 rebounds to make up for the horrible free throw shooting where he only nailed two out of 10. Junthy Valenzuela and Jayjay Helterbrand as well as slotman Eric Menk each scored 12 markers to block Air21’s rally. “Winning (Game 1) is very important, because you give the other team the burden of adjusting,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico. “At the same time, we have the luxury to also make adjustments even if we have the lead (in the series).” Game Two is set Friday evening at the Ynares Center. |
