“The missing link in Philippine sports is the training. The government is challenged to put up a school to provide these requirements,” Ramirez said, adding the country’s athletes need something more than the P15-million grant to them. Ramirez said P20 million will go to the rehabilitation of a building at the Ultra complex, P10 million will be spent on computers and P5 million on sports books. The PSI will offer programs such as high performance training courses, talent identification, and career development for athletes, while graduate studies, continuing education certificate programs, sports research, and accreditation shall be offered to sports practitioners. It will offer fill scholarships for the first 50-100 enrollees in the second semester who pass the screening by the PSC, National Sports Association, Department of Education, Committee on Higher Education, and Department of Interior and Local Government, Ramirez said. Ramirez also said bilateral agreements with Spain, China, the United States, Australia, Singapore, Britain, will bring visiting foreign and national experts to enhance the students’ training. |
