The good news came earlier than expected for the Philippine Sports Commission as the sports agency is set to receive additional funding for its various sports program and grassroots talent identification projects. PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez yesterday said the Bureau of Customs has already remitted at least P6 million from taxes and duties slapped on imported sports equipment. Ramirez said the early release of the Customs funding was made possible through the initiative of commissioner Ambrosio de Luna, who worked for the approval of the PSC’s request for the remittance of its 3 percent share from the taxes and duties of imported sports equipment. “We’re very grateful to our Customs officials for their quick response. This will help us in our efforts to push through with our various programs and help the different national sports associations in their quest for sports excellence,” said Ramirez. “Hindi rin tayo naging successful kung hindi sa tiyaga at pakikipag-usap ni commissioner De Luna. This will also boost our efforts to uplift the living condition of our athletes,” he added. De Luna, who was tasked to head the PSC legal team in a series of dialogs with custom officials, initially called the attention of the bureau with regards to the tax shares intended for sports.
