Muñoz, a full-blooded Filipino, will go against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill in a light heavyweight match under UFC 96, which will feature Quinton “Rampage” Jackson against Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine in the main event. "I've been training extremely hard for this fight, and I will come prepared for anyone who steps foot in the cage with me," Muñoz, also known as the "The Philippine Wrecking Machine", told UFC.com. He said he feels honored to have his debut fight against Hamill, who has already made a “great name” for himself in the UFC. Muñoz added that he believes the fight is a great opportunity to showcase his skills. The California-based Fil-Am said "I am truly pumped up to have the world see what Mark Muñoz is all about." Muñoz also thinks the fight will be won "between the transitions, between wrestling and striking, and wrestling and jujitsu." Hamill, meanwhile, said that he knows he will have a great fight against Muñoz given their extensive wrestling background. "He is an outstanding wrestler and from what I've seen, a very exciting fighter," Hamill said in a separate UFC interview. Muñoz will go into the fight undefeated with five wins while Hamill has seven wins and two losses. Before he started his MMA career, Muñoz was a wrestling coach at the University of California-Davis. In college, he was the 2001 NCAA Division 1 National Champion wrestler and a two-time NCAA All-American for the Cowboys. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science from Oklahoma State University. |
