Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) board chairman Joaqui Trillo of Alaska has called for a special board meeting on Monday at the PBA head office to start deliberating on the process of Air21’s intention of changing its name to Burger King by next conference.
PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios announced this on Friday to clarify that Air21’s case is “not that simple", with the board needing to look closely whether Burger King is indeed a firm that’s owned by at least 33.3 percent by Air21 100 Inc., the Linas’ holding firm when it entered the league in 2002. Barrios said that under PBA rules, the holding firm can change its PBA team’s name to another product that falls under its umbrella company, such as the case when San Miguel decided to change its name to Magnolia last season. “Obviously, hindi naman product brand ng Air21 100, Inc. ang Burger King (Obviously Burger King is not a product brand of Air21 100, Inc.)," said Barrios. “But at the same time, Air21 100 Inc. should show documentation that they have a 33.3 percent share at Burger King and the ownership structure." Barrios did not say whether the board will decide with finality on the case of Air21 on Monday. “Malalaman natin yan as we go along (We will find out everything as we go along)," said Barrios. |
