Like any other national sports associations (NSAs), the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) has kicked off early preparation for this year's Southeast Asian Games in Laos.

PATAFA president Go Teng Kok announced on Monday that a total of 20 names, led by Beijing long jump Olympians Henry Dagmil and Marestela Torres, have already been endorsed to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).http://www.sportsnews.ph/images/ICONS/athletics.png
“We already lined up local and international tournaments as part of their preparation for this year’s Southeast Asian Games in Laos. I hope the PSC will approve our line up, this is our best athletes in athletics,” said Go.

Other names included in the RP athletics team are Rene Herrera (3000 m), Arniel Ferrera (hammer throw), Julius Nierras (400m), Mercedita Manipol (5000m), Danilo Fresnido (javelin throw), Ernie Candelario (400m), Rosie Villarito (javelin), Mary Grace Melgar (400m hurdles); Arnold Villarube (deca), Joebert Delicano (triple jump), Midel Dique (800m), Julius Sermona (10,000m), Eduardo Buenavista (marathon), Jho-an Banayag (marathon), Rodrigo Tanuan Jr.. (400m), Junrey Bano (400m), Eliezer Sunang (shot put) and Deborah Ann Samson (pole vault).

”These are our best athletes but we have also 53 potentials who now form the training pool,” Go clarified.

Meanwhile, the athletics chief has named race organizer Rudy Biscocho to head the road race committee which will be formed to make sure that all road race tournaments in the country will be sanctioned by the association.

”We came out with this strict, no sanction, no tournament policy because a lot of road race tournament organizers do not follow the regulations which PATAFA has put up for safe staging of tournament,” Go clarified.

Go said Dagupan mayor Alipio Fernandez and Rep. Rufus Rodriguez have also been tapped to help the PATAFA in its effort to produce world-class athletes.
