“I was very sheltered... Protected from all the politics,” Thomson said Monday in her first media interview after her appointment was announced last Thursday. Thomson, who saw action in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics, said she will work to strengthen the relationship among the PSC, Philippine Olympic Committee and the National Sports Association. “I will try my best to have a positive impact in the PSC,” said Thomson, who replaced Joey Mundo. “As much as possible, I want to nurture relationships.” Thomson, who said she is “surprised and honored” over her appointment, stressed the importance of transparency in her new job. Thomson said she will be in charge of cycling, fencing, judo, wrestling, arnis, shooting, Paralympics and women in sports. “I’m still learning about the PSC and how things are run so I couldn’t come up with a clear plan for now,” said Thomson, formerly secretary general of the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association. |
