The Dumaguete Uni-Bikers completed its upset of the Forward Taguig Patriots, 6-2, to enter the semifinals of Baseball Philippines Series 3 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Edmer del Socorro and Marlon Caspillo each belted a two-run homer against losing pitcher Ernesto Binarao in the first inning to set the tone for the match.

"Nag-focus kami sa batting dahil alam namin na si Binarao ang gagamitin sa game," Uni-Bikers head coach Lito Pulgo said.

"Sa praktis talaga puro fastball ang pitches na binabato sa mga hitters namin para makuha nila yung timing at mabuti naman at nag-click ang hitting namin nung first inning," he added.

Southpaw Darwin dela Calzada had another strong game for the Uni-Bikers by allowing just eight hits in a no-relief effort that saw him keep the Patriots scoreless in the first eight innings.

With the victory, Dumaguete tackles the league-leading Manila Sharks in today’s semifinal round.

The Sharks, who posted a 10-1 record in the eliminations, hold a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis.

"Dalawang beses kami na hindi nanalo sa kanila (sa Series 3)," Pulgo said. "Pero pipilitin naming makatungtong sa punto na magkaroon ulit ng rematch."

Del Socorro, a member of the RP national team, had a strong game with four hits and three runs-batted-in (RBI) while Franciso Ramos and Caspillo had two RBI’s apiece.

The loss overshadowed a nine-strikeout effort by Binarao, who also gave up 11 hits in the contest.

In the second game, the Cebu Dolphins scored four runs in the third inning to defeat the Batangas Bulls, 8-4, and force their semifinals series to a rubber match at 2 p.m. today.

Run-scoring hits by Emerson Atilano and a strong pitching by starter Joseph Orillana helped the Dolphins keep their bid of making the finals alive.
