Roach takes Ortiz as Pacquiao sparmate

{mosimage}Coach Freddie Roach is taking no chances as he sets a heavier sparring mate against Manny Pacquiao for the June 28 challenge against WBC lightweight champ David Diaz in Las Vegas, Nevada, an online news report said Tuesday.

FightFan.com said that Roach has enlisted the services of 140-lb Victor Ortiz as one of Pacquiao's sparmates. Roach said that he believes Ortiz, touted as bigger and stronger than Diaz, will fit the bill in preparation for the WBC super featherweight king's ascent to the 135-lb division.

In addition to Ortiz, Roach said that former world champ Freddie Norwood may also be enlisted to do practice sessions with Pacquiao.

According to Roach, Pacquiao is set to arrive at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood, California for training on May 10.

At present, the "Pacman" is continuing training sessions in his native General Santos City in the Philippines.

Pacquiao's last fight on March 15 this year earned him the WBC super featherweight crown held by Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico.
