FENCING chief Celso Dayrit announced his six-point agenda during a lunchtime gathering at the Heritage Hotel and said he has got positive results with the support he got at the end of the meeting. “I am happy that people are coming out in the open to give their support,” said Dayrit, who is seeking the presidency of the POC when elections are held in November. With athletics chiefs Go Teng Kok and Salvador Andrada among the sports leaders who listened, Dayrit explained that his bid for the top post in the POC is all about reforms and the present situation in Philippine sports. A long-term Olympic gold program, which would culminate in the 2012 London Olympiad, is on top of his list of goals, which he formulated with Philippine National Shooting Association president Art Macapagal. Synchronizing and synergizing all national competitions is second on the agenda, while improvement in the governance of the POC is third. The other points in Dayrit’s agenda include the strengthening of the national sports associations, the re-launching of all Olympic education programs and the improvement of the POC’s image before the international sports community. “I believe that it’s about time that everybody should share in the effort to improve Philippine sports,” added Dayrit, who said he will also block attempts to amend the Olympic charter if they are held without proper consultation.” Macapagal, who was not in the meeting, is reportedly seeking the chairmanship of the POC, and is expected to challenge Robert Aventajado of taekwondo for the position. |
