MANILA -- The 2009 Samsung UAAP Cheerdance Competition takes the collegiate spotlight when the much-awaited event takes place this Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

All eight universities have been rehearsing and polishing their stunts day and night just to bring home the crown, and of course, the glory for their alma maters.

This year's biggest match would be the back-to-back champion, UP Pep Squad. However, an even bigger rival for the team would probably be the group from the University of Santo Tomas.

Looking back, the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe won the title for five years in a row from 2002 to 2006 - three of which placed the UP Pep Squad second. For sure, they will be there to reclaim the title as they fell second to UP in the past two years.

In any case, all teams are expected to perform well and give a good show as the UAAP Cheerdance Competition is usually one of the most-attended events of any UAAP season. During the previous year, more than 23,000 supporters and enthusiasts showed up at the arena.
