LOCAL officials and backers of taekwondo recently formed the Regional Management Committee (RMC)-Southern Mindanao in an attempt to propagate the sport of taekwondo in the Davao Region.

The RMC-Southern Mindanao Council will serve as the regional counterpart of the Philippine Taekwondo Assocation (PTA) National Council.

Delfin Bacon, an avid taekwondo supporter, was named chairman in an election held Sunday afternoon at the Cafe Juna in Juna Subdivision in Matina.

Felipe Non Jr. was also elected vice chairman for international affairs, while Renante B. Andres was picked vice chairman for external affairs. The group also named its secretary, treasurer, and auditor.

Also present during the gathering, where a meeting was also conducted, were parents and friends of children who are into taekwondo.

Bacon said they aim to produce more taekwondo jins to train them to be talented athletes, noting the dearth in finding talents for the national team.

"We don't have new talented taekwondo jins in the national team the past years," Bacon said.

"Through this (committee), we would like to propagate the sport of taekwondo," Non said.
