This time the University of Santo Tomas Tigers made sure there will be no more five-minute extension.
The Tigers, forced by Adamson into an extra five minutes in their first round encounter, coasted to a 97-83 win over the Falcons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The win hiked the Tigers’ record to 4-4 to tie the idle University of the East Red Warriors from fourth to fifth place. It also allowed the Espana-based dribblers to bounce back after a 64-57 loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles last week.
Jervy Cruz, who was held to a season-low eight points in the Tigers’ loss to the Eagles, set a new career-high in leading the Tigers’ to victory. The veteran center had a double-double performance with 29 points and 15 rebounds.
The Falcons joined the National University Bulldogs and the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons at the cellar with similar 2-6 marks. – Andrew Lanot
