The University of the East (UE) Warriors axed the hapless University of the Philippines (UP) Maroons, 87-58, during their clash in the men's basketball tournament of the UAAP Season 71 at the Philsports Arena Thursday.

UE led as much as 35 points with Warrior Hans Thiele leading the pack with 15 markers.

The first quarter showed signs of things to come as the Warriors piled 27 points against the Maroons 12. UE further widened the gap in the second quarter as they closed the half at 46-20.

By the end of the third quarter, it was already clear that UP was playing a losing game as the Warriors notched 71 points against the Maroons’ 35.

It was the worst defeat dealt against UP, which lost all 14 games during last season’s eliminations before scoring a win against the National University, 86-72, on July 6 this year.

UP suffered their fourth loss in five outings while UE notched its third win against two losses.
