Stags outplay Knights, 76-73 |

Jason Ballesteros and Pamboy Raymundo saved their best at endgame, hitting the crucial baskets to steer the San Sebastian Stags past the Letran Knights, 76-73, yesterday in the 84th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The 6-7 Ballesteros scored on a lay-up over the outstretched arm of Rey Guevara with 29 seconds to go to shove the Stags on top, 74-71, with ony 29 seconds to go.
Ballesteros had 11 points and dominated the board with 14 rebounds.
“Jason did another good job. As in our past three games, meron laging nagiistep-up sa endgame. We were down in the last three minutes but they didn’t panic. This is a very good win for us since this brings us a better position in the Final Four,” said San Sebastian coach Jorge Gallent.
Later, Raymundo completed his charities off Dino Daa with 4.9 seconds left to ensure San Sebastian’s seventh win against three losses, which put the Stags solidly at fourth place.
Jim Viray led the Stags with 22 points and six rebounds. RJ Jazul finished with 15 points for the Knights.
Trailing by five, 60-65, Letran vaulted in front 69-65, with still 3:29 to go on Guevarra’s two treys and Carlo Melegrito’s own triple.
But a three-point play from Ballesteros kept the Stags close, 68-69, time down to 3:19.
