BATANGAS — Nani Epondulan scored 22 points and Lawrence Bonus added 16 as the Tagaytay-Cavite Heroes turned back the Baguio Victory, 91-79, Saturday to advance to the final of the Batangas leg of the Liga Pilipinas Tour elimination phase here. The Heroes, finalists in Week 2 against the Pampanga Buddies last week, will face Sunday the winner of the semifinal game between the Lipa Barakos and the Iloilo Mang Inasals which was ongoing at press time. Epondulan went 9 of 11 from the free throw line, going 6 of 10 from the floor with Bonus, while ex-pro Ato Morano and Mark Benitez each added 12 points.
The game had three deadlocks and two lead changes which occurred in the early going when the Heroes were trying to seize control.
Ironically, the Victory dominated the boards, 55-39, gaining a 22-6 advantage under the offensive glass. But the Highlanders threw away the critical edge by shooting 25 of 75 from the field (33 percent) compared to the Heroes’ 30 of 67 (45 percent), and turning the ball over on 15 occasions.
