Liga Pilipinas is an upcoming regional basketball league in the Philippines. It is sanctioned by the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the county's national basketball federation, and owned by Pinoy Basketbol, Inc. The National Basketball Conference and the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association, along with Third Force Inc., were merged to officially form the league. The league's launch is set on May 31, 2008, and games to start on June 18, 2008.

First conference champions M. Lhuillier-Cebu Niños are itching to defend their title as the country's premier community-based league, the Liga Pilipinas, gets ready to unwrap the second conference on Wednesday at the General Santos City gum in Barangay (village) Lagao, General Santos City.
The Niños have kept most of their championship core around and are now ready to take on all comers to their crown.
Wanting to pull in more fans to their fold, the Niños have tweaked their roster and is now composed of all Cebuano players.
Back for M. Lhuillier is Liga MVP Marlon Basco and he will be ably supported by Stephen Padilla, Danny Aying, Jercules Tangkay, Woodraw Enriquez, Jerry Cavan, Ronald Bucao, Mark Jonas Ababon, Jayford Rodriguez, Rino Berame and Ariel Mepana. |

The Misamis Oriental Meteors earned a spot in the Smart-Liga Pilipinas semifinals after completing a three-game sweep of the Pagadian Explorers. Patrick Cabahug scored 15 points as the Meteors utilized a stifling defense in downing the Explorers, 69-59, late Monday night at the Xavier Gym in Cagayan de Oro. The Meteors will meet the winner of the best-of-five series between the Taguig Batang Global and the Iloilo Mang Inasal in another race-to-three semifinal showdown starting August 30.

Wildcard winners Misamis Oriental Meteors, the Lipa Batangas Barakos, and the Laguna Trace Stallions won’t be having the benefit of the home crowd as they did before come the quarterfinal phase of the Smart-Liga Pilipinas playoff starting next week.
All three teams begin their respective best-of-five campaigns on the road, less than a week after gaining mileage out of their homecourt edge to advance into the Final 8 of the tournament.

THE M. Lhuillier-Cebu Niños added another feather to their cap following a one-sided 99-75 bashing over the Pagadian Explorers in the championship game of the 2008 Liga Pilipinas Championships Tour Ilolilo leg elimination at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City.
Cebu started the game 14-2 and never looked back en route to collecting its final tour elimination trophy.
Cebu finished the Tour with 49 points to secure the No.1 spot, the automatic quarterfinals slot and the homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs phase.
