Bemedalled Filipino swimmer Miguel Molina finished 6th place in the men’s 200m breaststroke during Tuesday’s swimming event of the Beijing Olympics.
Molina clocked at 2:16:94, 3.60 behind top placer Carlos Almeida of Portugal during their Heat 2 competition at the National Aquatics Center.
The 24-year-old Molina also failed to break his personal mark of 2:16.62.
The only tanker who swam behind Molina was Chinese Taipei’s Wei-Wen Wang (2:17.20).
Molina hopes to fare better at the men's 200m individual medley which is scheduled on Wednesday.
Molina won four gold medals in last year’s Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. He competed in four events in the Athens Olympics in 2004, finishing 42nd of 59 swimmers in the 200m freestyle, 38th of 46 in the 200m breaststroke, 33rd of 48 in the 200m individual medley and 34th of 36 in the 400m individual medley.
Meanwhile, also set to compete on Wednesday are Filipino Olympians Christel Simms (swimming, women's 100m freestyle - Heat 2), archer Mark Javier (archery, men's individual 1/32 eliminations) and boxer Harry Tañamor (boxing men's light flyweight - 48kg Round of 32).
