RP's Christel Simms places 4th but breaks personal best |

Filipino swimmer Christel Simms finished fourth in the women’s 100m freestyle event at the National Aquatics Center Wednesday.
The 17-year-old Filipino tanker clocked at 56.67 seconds for Heat 2. She beat her personal record of 57.12 seconds at the 100m freestyle for the qualifying event during the US Junior National Swimming Championships in Indianapolis in August 2007.
Simms' finish Wednesday was a nearly a second (0:53) behind Heat 2 top placer Ting Wen Quah of Singapore who clocked 56.14.
Behind Simms were Pin-Chieh Nieh of Chinese Taipei (57.28) and Irina Shlemova of Uzbekistan (58.77).
Simms will next compete in the women's 50m freestyle - Heat 6 event on Friday.
Next to compete Wednesday is Filipino boxer Harry Tañamor who will be facing Manyo Plange of Ghana in the men's light flyweight (48kg) event Round of 32. Dennis Gasgonia, abs-cbnNEWS.com
