Pacman in final training week, focuses on ‘mental conditioning’

PacmanWith just a week away from his highly anticipated “Dream Match” with Oscar de la Hoya on December 6, Manny Pacquiao is now fine-tuning the final aspect of his 10-week training: mental focus.

“Ang pisikal na aspeto ng aking training ay halos matatapos na,” the Filipino champion said in his column Kumbinasyon published on PhilBoxing.com. “Lumaki rin po ang aking katawan at proportion ito sa aking height kaya hindi naman tayo madedehado sa timbang.”

Pacquiao said now that the physical training is nearing to its close, his team will gradually lighten his sparring rounds and help him concentrate on his mental focus.

Although the country failed in its quest to win the overall title, the Philippine Team contingent to the 6th Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) games was able to match last year’s finish.

In Sunday’s closing rites at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, young athletes from Puerto Princesa and Mindanao ended up with a decent fifth and sixth place finish in the overall medal tally.

Puerto Princesa hauled five gold, five silver and eight bronze medals while Mindanao plucked four gold, seven silver and four bronze medals for an accumulated medal harvest of 33 for Team Philippines.

Arcilla retains PCA Open men's titleJohnny Arcilla beat top seed Patrick John Tierro Sunday to retain the men's singles title in the 2008 Philippine Columbian Association Open Tennis Championships.

A report posted on SportsNews.ph said game scores were 4-6, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

"Masarap ang pakiramdam," said the Arcilla, who pocketed a total of P110,000 in cash, including the P10,000 in the doubles he won with Tierro.
