Tony Lascuña missed another crack at an Asian Tour crown for the second straight week as he closed out with a one-under 71 and settled for joint third in the Brunei Open won by Taiwan’s Lin Wen-Tang at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Bandar Seri, Begawan in Brunei yesterday. Lascuña birdied two of the first six holes to gain a share of the lead with former Philippine Open champion Adam Le Vesconte at 13-under. But the dusky Filipino shotmaker failed to sustain his momentum and dropped a stroke on No. 11 and bowed out of the title hunt. Counting his opening 70 and a couple of 66s, Lascuña wound up with a 12-under 272 for a share of third in the rain-interrupted $300,000 event with third round leader Lu Wen-teh, also of Taiwan, and Aussie Scott Barr. Lascuña, one of the coaches under the ICTSI golf stable who finished joint second worth $25,425 (P1.1 million) in last week’s Johor Open won by Artemio Murakami, took home $15, 130 (around P740,000). Lu wavered with four birdies against three bogeys for a 70 while Barr rallied with a 66. The 33-year-old Lin, six shots down at the start of the round, sizzled with a bogey-less six-under 65 to finish with a 15-under 269 for a two-stroke victory over Lesconte, who cracked with a two-over 73 for a 271.
