The P4.63-million The Country Club (TCC) Invitational starting Thursday will jumpstart the 2009 Philippine Golf Tour, which will open this year’s local golf circuit.

The pro tour revival actually started late last year with sponsor ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services, Inc.) putting up a three-leg circuit at Valley Golf in Antipolo, Sherwood Golf Club in Cavite and Apo Golf Club in Davao.

The three-leg circuit registered the top 36 players in the Order of Merit who will all go after TCC’s P1.350 million top prize.

Among the leading contenders are Angelo Que, Juvic Pagunsan, Tony Lascuna, Mars Pucay and Rey Pagunsan, all of whom clinched the top five berths.

The four-day championship will be held for the seventh straight year in honor of ICTSI founder Enrique "Don Pocholo" Razon, Sr.

Others tipped to contend for the championship are 2005 champion Jerome Delariarte, Elmer Salvador, Rey Pagunsan, Jay Bayron, Marvin Dumandan, Benjie Magada, Robert Pactolerin, Artemio Murakami, Danny Zarate, Orlan Sumcad, Richard Sinfuego, Ruben Sasutil, Cookie La'O, Carito Villaroman and former RP Open champion Gerald Rosales.

TCC, which is RP’s biggest golfing tournament next to the Philippine Open, also offers P685,000, P440,000, P315,000 and P225,000 to the next four placers, respectively, ensuring a spirited battle for top honors among the country's top pros.
