LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Twelve-time National Open champ Rogelio "Joey" Antonio, Jr. scored his ninth victory in the US as he won the overall championship in the just-concluded Universal-Super Swiss January 2009 Chess Championships in Warren, Michigan.A report posted on BilliardPhilippines.com said the Calapan, Oriental Mindoro native scored a total of 8.5 points out of the possible 9. Ameer Shawky Ghobrial settled for second place (7.0 points) while Michael Bowersock, who inflicted the only draw of Antonio in the seventh round ended in a third place (6.5 points). Antonio earlier dominated the Los Angeles Chess Club Open Chess Championships at the Santa Monica Boulevard with 4.5 points after five games of play.
