Grandmaster Wesley So stayed in contention with another draw in the 71st Corus Chess Tournament at the De Moriaan Community Centre on Monday (Tuesday in the Philippines) at the Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands.So, the highest-rated player in the 14-player tilt, drew with FM Anish Giri of Russia in their third round faceoff. He started tournament with a victory against fellow GM Friso Nijober of the Netherlands then halved the point with GM Oleg Romanishin of Ukraine in the second round. Although the 15 year-old Filipino ace played tough, he just could not crack Giri and shared the point with the Russian. With his third round result, So has accumulated two points, half a point behind GM Eduardo Iturrizaga of Venezuela and IM Manuel Bosboom of Netherlands. So will next meet fourth seed GM Abhijeet Gupta (ELO 2569) of India. Gupta has so far posted a win and two defeats. |
