Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So (Elo 2577) trounced Ukrainian International Master (IM) Martyn Kravtsiv (Elo 2555) to keep Philippine flag soaring high after Monday's ninth round of the 2008 World Junior Chess Championship for Boys and Girls in Gaziantep, Turkey.
With the win, the 14-year-old Bacoor chess wizard, who holds the distinction as the world’s youngest grandmaster, raised his total to 6.5 points on account of four wins and five draws to climb into a share of 4th to 6th places along with Chinese GM Li Chao (Elo 2590) and Azerbaijan GM Eltaj Safarli (Elo 2527).
German IM Arik Braun (Elo 2533) took the solo spot in the standings with 7.5 points after beating Chinese Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Hou Yi Fan (Elo 2557) in the ninth round.

GM Wesley So resumes his title drive in the World Junior Chess Championship Sunday as he takes on IM Tornike Sanikidze of Georgia in the eighth round at the Sehitkamil Municipality Sport Hall in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Fully charged after a one-day break Saturday, the 11th-seeded So hopes to start the final drive to the championship the way he ended the first half of the 13-round tournament – on a winning note.
So even gets the luxury of handling the white pieces for the second straight game after he demolished Indian IM Pradad Subramanian Friday to gain a share of sixth place with five points.

GAZIANTEP, Turkey: Another game, another draw for GM Wesley So.
So agreed to a draw against IM Hrant Melkumyan (ELO 2507) of Armenia to stay in contention after the sixth round in the 2008 World Junior Chess Championships at the Sehit Kamil Municipality Sport Hall here Thursday.
It was the third straight draw for the 14-year-old Filipino champion and fourth overall in six matches, leaving him with four points at the halfway mark of the 13-round tournament being held in this major Turkish city near the Syrian border.

FILIPINO Grandmaster Wesley So settled for a draw with GM Manuel Hoyos Leon of Mexico (Elo 2453) in Tuesday's fourth round of the 2008 World Junior Chess Championship for Boys and Girls in Gaziantep, Turkey.
The No. 11 seed So, who holds an Elo Fide rating of 2577 raised his total 3.0 points on account of 2 wins and 2 draws after four games of play. He is now tied at 7th place along with 14 others that includes his fifth round opponent GM Alejandro Ramirez of Costa Rica (Elp 2531), who brought down Niccolo Ronchettit of Italy (Elo 2434).
