“Siguro three more title defenses, then aakyat na kami sa 108 pounds,” said Nietes’ head trainer Edmund Villamor during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue branch. Villamor is confident that his ward can hurdle three more defenses, citing Nietes' dedication to his craft. “The boy doesn't do anything else other than work out in the gym," said the boxing coach. The Bacolod-based champion is fresh from his successful title defense with a unanimous decision win over Erik Ramirez in front of his opponent’s home crowd in Mexico. This was despite his failure to take with him his lucky pet snake. His snake named “Don” is a regular fixture in Nietes’ fights in the Philippines, hence the boxer was given the monicker “Ahas”.Tags: WBO Donnie “Ahas” Nietes |
