Pacquiao has tools to beat one dimensional HattonFormer world lightweight champion Juan Diaz said Manny Pacquiao has got what it takes to beat Ricky Hatton, whom he described as a “one-dimensional” fighter.

Diaz, the former unified WBA, WBO and IBF world lightweight champion, said he is expecting an explosive battle between Pacquiao and Hatton when the two boxers meet inside the ring on May 2.

“It's gonna be two good guys facing against each other but I think Manny Pacquiao has improved as far as his boxing skills are concerned,” Diaz told sports writer Dennis Principe in dzSR’s Sports Chat.

He added that Pacquiao’s punching power coupled with vastly-improved skills can upend the British champion.

“We all know that he has the power to knock a guy out and he did that from junior featherweight, feather weight all the way up to welterweight. I think his boxing skills is gonna take him over to win against Ricky Hatton,” he said.

Diaz also cited that Hatton has a weakness that the Filipino can take advantage.

“The fact that Ricky Hatton is a one-dimensional fighter, he just comes forward a lot, I think Manny Pacquiao can expose that and beat him,” said Diaz.

The former world champion is also setting himself up for a showdown against Pacquiao’s bitter rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

The face off, which will give Diaz an opportunity to reclaim the WBO and WBA title, is scheduled to take place Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Also at stake is Marquez’s IBO and the Ring Magazine lightweight titles.

Diaz said he expects a hard fight against the seasoned Marquez, who lost his WBC super featherweight title to Pacquiao March last year.

“He is a smart fighter, he doesn’t give up and he has a lot of heart,” Diaz said of his opponent, who defeated Joel Casamayor in the lightweight division in September 2008.

Diaz, however, said he is willing to do everything to reclaim his titles, which he lost to Nate Campbell.

“Right now I'm the hungry guy,” he said. “I'm young and hungry and I'm willing to go through any extreme to beat him.”
