Roach: Pacquiao-Mosley match very much possible Should boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao successfully hurdle British champion Ricky Hatton on May 2, he could very well take the “next level” and face WBA welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley.

For Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, a match-up between Pacquiao and Mosley “will be a tremendous fight”.

“[They are] two of the fastest guys in the game,” Roach told Brad Cooney of 8Countnews.com. “It's a great fight, both guys have speed, both guys have power.”

Although there were rumors of former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanting to fight Pacquiao, Roach said the Filipino fighting Mosley will be more marketable.

“I think the more marketable fight is [with] Mosley. I think the fans would like to see it,” he said.

He explained that this is because Pacquiao and Mosley think alike.

“One thing about Shane [is] he comes in to fight and he doesn't run like many other guys,” said Roach.

The celebrated trainer also said that like the vastly improved Pacquiao, Mosley is an intelligent boxer who uses his skills to his advantage.

“Shane and Manny will use their speed and combinations and they'd do it in a smart way. They're intelligent (fighters),” said Roach.

Should a Pacquiao-Mosley fight be arranged, it will probably take place in a catch weight, he said.

If he wins over Hatton, Pacquiao will have to come up from 140 pounds while Mosley will be going down from 147.

Shortly after winning over Antonio Margarito, Mosley was quoted as saying that he wanted to fight next the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr.

"I want the one with the most money. It's probably going to be Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Those would be the top two guys that I would want to pick first,” said the 37-year-old boxer.

Mosley explained that Pacquiao had a good fight with his Golden Boy Promotions business partner Oscar de la Hoya, which is why he considered a match up with the Filipino.
