Three years ahead of the London Olympics, the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABP) announced Friday a P12-million incentive for the Filipino boxer who will bag a gold medal in the international multi-sport event."By giving this incentive, more Pinoy boxers will be motivated to train harder and compete in local and international tournaments, and give honor and glory to the country," ABAP and PLDT-Smart Chairman Manny Pangilinan during the National Boxing Congress in Bacolod City. Pangilinan's announcement was heavily received by boxers who came from all over the country to join the boxing congress. He said the P12-million purse will come from the telephone company's funds. He said the company decided to set aside the purse money this early to inspire Filipino boxers. He said with Manny Pacquiao's successful career, it would not be impossible for the Philippine to produce another world-class boxer. "We believe that sports is always one of the best ways to develop the people of the nation as it creates unity and oneness among us," Pangilinan said. |
