Boxing hall-of-famer Freddie Roach will try to persuade Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao to accept the 50-50 split being insisted by Britain's Ricky Hatton for the “superfight” to push through."I hope the fight happens, and I think 50–50 is a good deal," Guardian.co.uk quoted Roach as saying. Roach, who is Pacquiao's trainer, said the Filipino fighter should reconsider his decision to pursue a 60-40 split of revenue. Roach acknowledged Hatton's huge following in Britain, which could generate more pay-per-view earnings for the superfight. Observers estimate that Pacquiao and Hatton stand to earn $10-20 million each from their match. "I agree with it because Hatton brings a lot of people from the UK, so I hope I can get Manny on board," said Roach. Roach earlier told Filipino sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz that the Hatton fight will be good for Pacquiao. “[Hatton] likes to hold a lot. He throws one or two punches, then holds,” said Roach, who indicated that he has already figured a way to get out of the predicament. However, the fight might not push through as negotiations between both camps have reached a deadlock as Pacquiao insisted on a 60-40 split. In a text message to ABS-CBN correspondent Dyan Castillejo, Pacquiao maintained that he has not changed his mind regarding the percentage split with Hatton. “Basta hindi nagbago ang 50-50 sharing, the fight will not happen,” said Pacquiao in his text message. The Filipino boxing champ said he even gave Hatton’s camp until February to decide on the cut, or else, he will find another opponent. “I will give them until February. ‘Pag bindi pa nagbago, hanap na lang ng ibang kalaban,” Pacquiao said. |
