MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing champion Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao arrived to a grand welcome during a visit at the GMA Network compound Wednesday, which has become part of his homecoming tradition since becoming the television network's talent. Upon arrival, Pacquiao was welcomed by cheering fans and GMA-7 employees led by president and chief executive officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon and executive vice president and chief operating officer Gilberto Duavit Jr. Pacquiao also went for a guesting at SIS, a talkshow hosted by sisters Janice and Gelli de Belen and Carmina Villaroel. Pacquiao expressed gratitude to his supporters for praying for him and watching the fight which he won against boxing's Golden Boy Oscar de la Hoya last Sunday. “Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Tagumpay ko, tagumpay nating lahat (I like to thank everyone. My victory is also yours)," said Pacquiao, who also hosts the Pinoy Records show which airs every Saturday on GMA-7. GMA-7 also aired live Pacquiao’s “Dream Match" with Golden Boy Oscar de la Hoya last Sunday. During an arrival program, Gozon congratulated Pacquiao, whom he called an “intelligent" Filipino fighter. “We are very proud to be the Kapuso of Manny Pacquiao. Si Manny ay hindi lamang napakagaling na boksingero kung hindi napatunayan niya na siya ay napakadakila at napakagaling na matalinong Pilipinong boksingero (We are very proud to be Manny Pacquiao’s Kapuso. He is not only a good boxer. He also proved how much of a great and intelligent Filipino boxer he was)," Gozon said. For his part, Duavit said Pacquiao “has proven that the determination, perseverance, and power of the spirit can overcome." “Well, Manny, ang iyong tagumpay ay nagpapatunay sa aming lahat kung ano ang kahalagahan ng determinasyon [at] ang lakas ng human power para daigin ang lahat ng mga kahirapan o obstacles para naman matuto kaming lahat sayo nang sa ganoon, maahon tayong lahat sa kahirapan (Your victory shows the importance of determination and the power of the human spirit to overcome any hardships or obstacles. We hope we can learn from you so we can also help overcome poverty in our country)," Duavit said. Pacquiao earlier went to Malacañang for a courtesy call on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after hearing a thanksgiving Mass at the Quiapo church. The pound-for-pound king arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 (NAIA-2) before dawn Wednesday via a Philippine Airlines PR-103 flight, and later attended a thanksgiving Mass at the Quiapo church. |
