World Boxing Organization Intercontinental superbantamweight champion Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista continues his comeback bid when he battles Mexico’s Eden Marquez in what promises to be another good test of whether Bautista has it in him to become a future world champion.

The Bautista-Marquez clash will come even as the man who inflicted a devastating first-round stoppage of “Boom Boom,” former WBO world champion Daniel Ponce de Leon, says he is looking forward to a rematch with Bautista who is currently ranked no. 2 by the WBO.

In an interview with Carlos Guzman of Fight Beat, Ponce de Leon said he was prepared to fight Bautista even in the Philippines or WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa who has been clamoring for a rematch after losing a 12-round unanimous decision to him.

The menacing Mexican said Bautista was not happy over his first-round knockout and Peñalosa has been calling him out, adding “those are two good fights we could make.”

But he said he hasn’t heard from the Filipinos after his stunning loss to Juan Manuel Lopez. Ponce de Leon told Guzman “ maybe they’ve lost interest but they are going to see that I’m back and as good as new when I return to the ring on Oct. 24.”

Ponce de Leon stressed “I don’t care where they want the fight, I’ll fight them anywhere. I just want to prove to them that I beat them fair and square.”

Ponce de Leon said he hadn’t seen any of Bautista’s fights since he beat him but knew that he won his last two fights . He said “ I don’t know if he’s gotten better or if he’s lost his confidence.”

At the same time, the former world champion said he believes Bautista was too young when he fought him for the world title pointing out that Bautista was “a young fighter who was still growing and learning. I think when we meet again he will be better this time and much improved. He’s a good fighter and I would like to fight him again.”
