Filipino super bantamweight Bernabe Concepcion demolished US-based fighter Adam Carrera via a third-round technical knock out at the undercard of the Antonio Margarito-Miguel Cotto showdown at the MGM Grand Arena Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

A report posted on PhilBoxing.com said Concepcion floored Carrera twice in round three forcing referee Joe Cortez to stop the 10-rounder non-title fight.

The Catanduanes native tagged Carrera’s left ear with an uppercut 2:14 into the third round seconds after the US boxer recovered from a flash knockdown in the same round.

Concepcion connected 42 of the total of 105 punches as against Carrera’s 19 of the total 136 punches.

The Filipino, dubbed by Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum as “the next Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines,” registered 28 of the 47 power punches he thrown.

With the win Concepcion improved his record to 26-1, 15 Kos while Carrera dropped to 19-4, 8 Kos.

Concepcion, the reigning North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion, is ranked Number 5 by the WBC and Number 8 by the WBO.

Margarito KO’s Cotto

Meanwhile, former champion Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs) regained the world welterweight title with a brilliant eleventh round knockout of previously unbeaten WBA champion Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs).

Cotto outboxed Margarito in round one, but the war was on in round two as both fighters connected with huge bombs. Margarito applied relentless pressure over the next few rounds, but Cotto, boxing beautifully, landed the cleaner blows.

Margarito battered Cotto in the eleveth and Cotto took a knee twice before his corner threw in the towel.
