Matchmaker predicts excitement for 'Banal-Concepcion'

AJ “Bazooka” BanalInternational matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz on Wednesday predicted that the WBA interim super flyweight championship showdown between undefeated AJ “Bazooka” Banal and Panama’s Rafael “El Torito” Concepcion will be “a very exciting fight.”

A report posted on PhilBoxing.com, Lewkowicz said the Banal-Concepcion match-up slated at the Cebu Coliseum on Saturday (July 26) is “a great fight in which the best fighter will win.”

Lewkowicz, who was named WBA 2008 “Matchmaker of the Year”, said “this will be a very exciting fight between two young fighters who will not give up in their wish and their will.”

The fight card titled “LABAN NA BANAL: Panahon Na” will be telecast by ABS-CBN in partnership with ALA Gym and Golden Boy Promotions. The live telecast will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Studio 23 with a replay over Channel 2 on Sunday morning.

Concepcion handler Damon De Berry said his ward is “ready to go, has trained very hard and is determined to take the title back to Panama.”

Banal also looked sharp in training is eagerly looking forward to the interim championship bout and a future clash with the winner of another all-Japan clash between Nobuo Nashiro and Kohein Kono on September 15.

Meanwhile, female super bantamweight Brenda Shaylor of Las Vegas will also see action in the Banal-Concepcion fight. She will be facing former amateur standout Reynalyn Consejo Jacob of Bacolod City.

Milan Melindo will go toe-to-toe with Panama’s Carlos Melo for the WBA Intercontinental title, while Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo is slated to handle Indonesian Rivo Ringkung for the WBO Oriental championship.

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard is promising James Bacon who will face Indonesian Skak Max in a six-round fight.
